How do pet tolerant alarms work?

The combination of pets & burglar alarm systems home alone used to be a recipe for persistent false alarms – leading many pet owners to leave their alarms off and their homes unprotected to avoid annoying their neighbours and the local police. Thanks to modern pet-friendly alarm technology from Pyronix and Ultimate Alarms you can have a home security system that is pet-friendly so both your home and your pets can be protected from criminals without the alarm being set off by the normal movement of pets in the house.

What are the Benefits of Pet-Friendly Alarms?

Many of these PIRs may be tuned to disregard certain sizes and forms of the entity responsible for the movement or to function only above a certain height, allowing the family dog to pass below the motion sensors without setting off the alert. This does not, however, account for creatures that can climb (such as cats, as previously indicated) or fly.

Dual, or active, technology alarms need the activation of two different sensors before the alert sounds, providing a more accurate detection system for pets. This might be useful for those who have many animals of various sizes in their house.

Animal movement is one of the most common sources of false alarms, especially in household settings.

Pets may easily set off alarms that depend on movement sensors, whether they’re an energetic puppy or a restless budgie. Cats, being infamous nighttime prowlers, may be particularly annoying in this regard, climbing onto furniture or through cat flaps.

PIR motion sensors

Pet interference with alarm systems, on the other hand, is not a new occurrence, and there are a variety of gadgets on the market to counteract it, the most frequent of which are PIRs (Passive Infrared Detectors).

PIRs claim to be the best at distinguishing between unwanted intruders and other movement within the house, and they function by combining an infrared-detecting Charge Coupled Device (CCD) with a lens that converts the information into “hot” and “cold” zones. The heat of these places is then compared to the room temperature, notifying the system if it detects excessive body heat from prospective intruders.

Potential interference

Unfortunately, since PIRs rely on infrared sensing, they may be harmed by radio waves, leading them to behave unpredictably. To alleviate this problem, RFI stabilisers may be added.

Pet-friendly wireless alarms are only slightly more expensive and require careful design, layout, setup and testing by trained, experienced technicians to minimise false activations.

Thanks to state-of-the-art motion detection technology, Pyronix’s pet alarm sensors means that the security system we install minimises false alarms whilst ensuring your home remains protect.
